Biography
DeKaylin Zecharius 'DK' Metcalf was born December 14, 1997, in Oxford, Mississippi, into a family that was essentially built around SEC football. His father Terrence Metcalf was a longtime NFL offensive lineman with the Chicago Bears after a star collegiate career at Ole Miss, and his uncle Eric Metcalf was a three-time Pro Bowl returner and receiver in the NFL. His grandfather Terry Metcalf also played professional football. Few players in the modern NFL have entered the league with a deeper multi-generational football lineage.
Metcalf attended Oxford High School in his hometown and committed to Ole Miss, continuing his family's program tradition. A serious neck injury cost him most of his final college season, and the injury combined with relatively modest college production produced a surprising slide in the 2019 NFL Draft despite his physically extraordinary combine performance.
The Seattle Seahawks selected Metcalf in the second round, 64th overall, and he immediately made the draft-day slide look foolish. His rookie year ended with a playoff game in which he caught seven passes for 160 yards, and he quickly developed into one of the most physically overwhelming wide receivers in NFL history — 6'4", 235 pounds, and 4.33 speed in the 40-yard dash.
Metcalf has been selected to multiple Pro Bowls and has posted several 1,000-yard receiving seasons, becoming one of the most fearsome downfield threats in the NFL. His 2020 campaign of 1,303 receiving yards set Seahawks single-season records, and he has since established himself as one of the consensus top wide receivers in the league. His trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025 pairs him with a quarterback room in transition.
His résumé includes multiple Pro Bowl selections, multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons, and widespread recognition as one of the most physically imposing wide receivers the NFL has ever produced. His combination of size, speed, and competitive intensity — memorably including his chase-down tackle of an Arizona defensive back who had intercepted a pass — has made him one of the more discussed receivers of his generation.
Off the field, Metcalf briefly competed in track sprints during the 2021 USA Track & Field Golden Games, finishing last in a 100-meter heat against world-class sprinters but drawing enormous attention for his crossover attempt. He is engaged to long-time girlfriend Normani — the Grammy-nominated R&B singer — whose relationship with Metcalf has become one of the most followed pairings in American sports and entertainment. He maintains endorsement partnerships with Adidas, Bose, and others, and has supported youth athletic programs in Mississippi and the Pacific Northwest.
