Biography
Trentavious White Williams was born July 19, 1988, in Longview, Texas, into a close family that emphasized faith and discipline. His upbringing in East Texas — one of the most football-obsessed regions in the country — shaped his physical development and work ethic, and his family has remained central to his identity throughout a long and decorated NFL career. He has been open about the role of faith in his life, even when navigating a serious cancer diagnosis during his career.
Williams attended Longview High School in Longview, Texas, where he was a top national recruit and multi-sport athlete. He signed with Oklahoma and became a two-time first-team All-Big 12 selection and Outland Trophy finalist, establishing himself as one of the premier offensive tackle prospects in the country.
The Washington Redskins selected Williams fourth overall in the 2010 NFL Draft, and he spent the first decade of his career in Washington before forcing a trade to San Francisco in 2020 after a contentious dispute with the team that involved a serious medical misdiagnosis. His time in Washington included multiple Pro Bowl selections, but his career has truly blossomed with the 49ers under head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Williams has been selected to nearly a dozen Pro Bowls and earned multiple first-team All-Pro honors, and he is widely considered the greatest offensive lineman of his generation. His consistent selection as the highest-graded offensive tackle in pro football by analytics services has matched his peer reputation as the best player at his position.
His career résumé includes a decade-plus of All-Pro selections, Pro Bowl appearances, a Super Bowl LVIII appearance, and near-universal recognition as one of the greatest offensive tackles in modern NFL history. A Super Bowl championship remains outstanding on an otherwise elite individual résumé.
Off the field, Williams has been open about his cancer journey — he was diagnosed with a rare cranial tumor in 2019 that was misdiagnosed by team doctors — and has become an advocate for cancer screening and patient advocacy. He maintains endorsement partnerships with Nike and other brands and has been active with charitable work in both his native Texas and the Bay Area. His contract extensions with the 49ers have made him one of the highest-paid offensive linemen in NFL history, cementing his legacy as one of the most important defensive-disrupting pieces of his era.
