Biography
Bo Frederick Nix was born February 25, 2000, in Pinson, Alabama, into a family deeply rooted in Alabama football culture. His father Patrick Nix quarterbacked at Auburn in the 1990s and has been a longtime high school and college football coach, while his mother Krista raised Bo alongside his two siblings. Growing up immersed in SEC football, coaching clinics, and team sidelines created an unusually accelerated football education from earliest childhood.
Nix attended Pinson Valley High School outside Birmingham, where he played for his father and became the state's Mr. Football, two-time state champion, and Gatorade Player of the Year. He signed with Auburn, following his father's footsteps, and started as a true freshman — a rarity even at powerhouse programs. After three uneven seasons with the Tigers, he transferred to Oregon for his final two years, where his game matured dramatically.
At Oregon, Nix became one of the most statistically efficient quarterbacks in college football history, setting the single-season FBS record for completion percentage in 2023 and finishing as a Heisman finalist. His combination of precision, pocket poise, and mobility caught the attention of NFL scouts who had soured on him during his Auburn struggles, and his final college season elevated him firmly into the top-15 quarterback conversation for the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Denver Broncos selected Nix 12th overall in 2024, pairing him with head coach Sean Payton — widely regarded as one of the NFL's premier quarterback developers. His rookie season exceeded expectations, with Nix leading Denver to the playoffs and establishing himself as the most promising Broncos quarterback since the Peyton Manning era. His production and leadership earned him Pro Bowl and Offensive Rookie of the Year consideration.
Off the field, Nix is married to Izzy Smoke Nix, a former Auburn women's basketball player whom he dated since high school. The couple married in 2021 while Nix was still at Auburn, and they have remained one of the more visible young couples in the NFL. Izzy maintains an active social media presence documenting their life together.
Nix has built partnerships with brands including Nike, Bose, and others, and has maintained strong ties to both Auburn and Oregon's football programs. He remains active in Alabama-area charitable initiatives and has supported youth football camps in both his home state and his adopted Denver community. With the benefit of Sean Payton's development and a skilled roster around him, Nix has positioned himself as one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the AFC.
