DaRon Bland

DaRon Bland was born July 26, 1999, in Fresno, California. His upbringing in California's Central Valley shaped his football development, and his path to NFL stardom was unusually circuitous for a future All-Pro. He was lightly recruited out of high school and took an unconventional college route that eventually led him to football stardom at the NFL level.

Bland attended Edison High School in Fresno, California, where he was an under-recruited prospect. He signed with Sacramento State — an FCS program — before transferring to Fresno State for his final two college seasons. His Fresno State production established him as a Day 3 NFL Draft prospect.

The Dallas Cowboys selected Bland in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, pick 167 overall — a late-round pick that has become one of the great draft-value steals in recent NFL history. He quickly developed into the most productive cornerback in the NFL during his second season, setting the single-season record with five interception return touchdowns in 2023 — breaking a record previously held by Jim Kearney and others.

Bland earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2023 and has established himself as one of the most productive young cornerbacks in the NFL. His ball skills and playmaking ability are among the best at his position in the modern game, and his combination of length and technique has allowed him to play inside or outside.

His career résumé already includes the NFL single-season interception return touchdown record, first-team All-Pro honors, and Pro Bowl selection — remarkable achievements for a player drafted in the fifth round.
