Biography
Mark Andrews was born September 6, 1995, in Scottsdale, Arizona, and his path to NFL stardom is made more remarkable by his lifelong battle with Type 1 diabetes, diagnosed when he was nine years old. His parents Martha and Paul have supported his diabetes management throughout his career, and Mark has become one of the NFL's most visible advocates for diabetes awareness, working closely with the American Diabetes Association and Dexcom to promote management and treatment options.
Andrews attended Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, where he was a state champion and four-star recruit. He signed with Oklahoma and became Baker Mayfield's favorite target during the 2017 Heisman Trophy-winning season, winning the Mackey Award as the nation's top tight end while helping the Sooners reach the College Football Playoff.
The Baltimore Ravens selected Andrews in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and he has spent his entire career in Baltimore, developing into one of the most productive receiving tight ends of his generation. His chemistry with quarterback Lamar Jackson — they were drafted the same year — has produced some of the most dominant tight end seasons in recent league history.
Andrews has been selected to multiple Pro Bowls and earned first-team All-Pro honors, with his 2021 season of 107 catches for 1,361 yards among the greatest individual tight end campaigns in NFL history. His route craft, contested-catch ability, and red zone excellence have made him a consistent top-tier fantasy producer and a foundational piece of the Ravens' offense.
His résumé includes multiple Pro Bowl selections, first-team All-Pro honors, and status as one of the most productive receiving tight ends of his generation. His long-running partnership with Lamar Jackson has produced some of the defining quarterback-tight end connections of the 2020s.
Off the field, Andrews's diabetes advocacy has become a signature off-field initiative. He has appeared in Dexcom national advertising campaigns and has spoken publicly about the challenges of managing Type 1 diabetes while playing at the NFL's highest level, becoming an inspirational figure for young athletes with the condition. He maintains endorsement partnerships with Nike, Bose, and other brands, and has remained closely tied to Scottsdale and the Oklahoma football community throughout his career.
