Biography
James Cook III was born September 25, 1999, in Hollywood, Florida, and grew up in a football family alongside his older brother Dalvin Cook, a long-time NFL running back. Their mother Varondria Burnett raised the brothers in a challenging environment that shaped both of their athletic paths, and the influence of Dalvin's football career provided James with a real-time roadmap for his own ascent through the college and pro ranks.
Cook attended Miami Central High School, one of South Florida's premier football programs, where he developed into a national-level recruit. He signed with Georgia, choosing to play in the SEC rather than stay in Florida, and spent four seasons as a key contributor to one of college football's elite programs. His senior year culminated in a College Football Playoff National Championship, with Cook playing a key role in Georgia's 2021 title run.
The Buffalo Bills selected Cook in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, pairing him with Josh Allen in one of the AFC's most potent offenses. He has since developed into the Bills' primary ball-carrier, posting multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons and establishing himself among the better featured backs in the AFC.
Cook has been selected to multiple Pro Bowls and is one of the more productive running backs in the league when measured by total scrimmage yards, combining efficient rushing with strong receiving production. His combination of vision, acceleration, and receiving ability has made him an ideal complement to Allen's passing game.
His career résumé includes Pro Bowl selections, a college national championship, and recognition as one of the AFC's top running backs. He has been a consistent presence in the Bills' offense during their run of sustained playoff contention under head coach Sean McDermott.
Off the field, Cook has maintained close ties to his older brother Dalvin and to their South Florida community, where the Cook family remains a prominent football name. He has been active in youth football initiatives and has supported community causes in both Buffalo and South Florida. His endorsement portfolio is developing, with partnerships typical of a young Pro Bowl-level running back. His family connection to another longtime NFL starter gives him a unique perspective on navigating the rigors of a professional football career.
