Biography
Maxx Christopher Crosby was born August 22, 1997, in Lapeer, Michigan, before his family relocated to Texas during his teenage years. His upbringing in both Michigan and Texas shaped his football development and his famously intense work ethic. He has spoken often about overcoming early-career alcoholism, which he addressed publicly after his rookie year and has remained sober since — a story that has become central to his public identity.
Crosby attended Colleyville Heritage High School in Colleyville, Texas, where he was an under-recruited prospect. He signed with Eastern Michigan — a mid-major Mid-American Conference program — and developed into one of the most productive pass rushers in MAC history, earning a fourth-round draft projection despite his small-school pedigree.
The Las Vegas Raiders selected Crosby in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, pick 106 overall, in what has become one of the great draft steals of the modern era. He has developed into one of the most relentless edge rushers in the NFL, posting multiple 10-plus sack seasons and consistent Pro Bowl-caliber production from year one onward.
Crosby has been selected to multiple Pro Bowls and earned first-team All-Pro honors, with multiple top-5-league sack totals and recognition as one of the most productive pass rushers at his position. His motor — widely considered among the highest in the league — has made him a fan favorite and a defensive cornerstone for a Raiders franchise that has rebuilt around him.
His career résumé includes multiple Pro Bowl selections, All-Pro honors, and recognition as one of the most productive edge rushers of his generation. He signed a record-setting contract extension in 2024 that placed him among the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in NFL history and cemented his long-term place with the Raiders.
Off the field, Crosby has been publicly open about his sobriety journey and has become an advocate for addiction recovery resources among professional athletes. His willingness to discuss his struggles has helped normalize the conversation about substance abuse in NFL locker rooms. He maintains endorsement partnerships with Nike, Under Armour, and other brands, and he has supported youth football initiatives in Michigan, Texas, and Nevada. His off-season training regimen — widely shared on social media and featuring elite-level physical conditioning — has become a staple of football training discourse.
