Biography
Arthur Juan 'A.J.' Brown was born June 30, 1997, in Starkville, Mississippi — the same city where he would later star for Mississippi State. He was raised by his mother Michelle Brown and has credited her with providing the stability and discipline that sustained him through a football career shaped from his earliest days in his Mississippi hometown. His Starkville upbringing placed him almost literally on the Mississippi State campus.
Brown attended Starkville High School, where he emerged as a top national recruit in both baseball and football. He was actually drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 2016 MLB Draft — a decision that briefly complicated his path — before committing to Mississippi State and becoming one of the most productive receivers in SEC history. His junior year he caught 75 passes for 1,320 yards and six touchdowns, cementing his first-round NFL Draft status.
The Tennessee Titans selected Brown in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and he delivered one of the great rookie seasons in recent NFL memory before earning Pro Bowl honors in his second and third seasons with Tennessee. A trade to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022 elevated both his career and the Eagles' offensive ceiling, as he paired with Jalen Hurts to form one of the NFL's most potent passing combinations.
Brown has earned multiple Pro Bowl selections and has been a force in Philadelphia's offense, helping the Eagles reach Super Bowl LVII and eventually win Super Bowl LIX. His combination of elite physicality at the catch point, after-the-catch running, and deep-ball capability has made him one of the most feared possession/deep-threat hybrid receivers in the NFL.
His résumé now includes Pro Bowl selections, first-team All-Pro consideration, multiple 1,400-yard receiving seasons, a Super Bowl championship, and one of the premier wide receiver contracts in the league. He has emerged as one of the consensus top-five receivers in football and the face of the Eagles' aerial attack alongside DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert.
Off the field, Brown has been open about his mental health journey and has become one of the NFL's most visible advocates for mental wellness among professional athletes. He has spoken publicly about experiences with depression and suicidal ideation earlier in his career, and his willingness to be vulnerable has helped normalize conversations about mental health in football locker rooms. He maintains endorsements with Jordan Brand and other brand partners, and his work with youth mental health programs in both Mississippi and Philadelphia has become central to his public identity.
