Biography
Cooper Douglas Kupp was born June 15, 1993, in Yakima, Washington, into a family with deep NFL roots. His father Craig Kupp briefly played in the NFL as a quarterback, and his grandfather Jake Kupp played 12 seasons in the league as an offensive lineman. That football lineage shaped Cooper's earliest understanding of the game, though his own path was unusually circuitous for a future Super Bowl MVP. He was raised alongside his brother Ketner and sister, all in the Yakima Valley.
Kupp attended Davis High School in Yakima, where despite strong production he was lightly recruited. He ended up at Eastern Washington — an FCS program — and proceeded to rewrite the division's record books. Across four seasons at Eastern Washington he caught 428 passes for 6,464 yards and 73 touchdowns, setting FCS all-time records that still stand. His college career was celebrated but went largely unnoticed by mainstream NFL Draft media.
The Los Angeles Rams selected Kupp in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and his development under Sean McVay transformed him into one of the most productive receivers in NFL history. His 2021 season became the signature year of his career and one of the greatest individual wide receiver seasons in league history: 145 catches, 1,947 yards, 16 touchdowns, the rare receiving triple crown, Offensive Player of the Year honors, and Super Bowl LVI MVP after catching the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Injuries slowed Kupp in the seasons following his Super Bowl triumph, but his status as one of the most precise route runners and reliable receivers of his generation remained secure. His combination of technical excellence, after-the-catch production, and chemistry with quarterback Matthew Stafford produced one of the more memorable quarterback-receiver pairings of the 2020s.
His résumé includes Super Bowl LVI MVP, first-team All-Pro honors, Offensive Player of the Year, multiple Pro Bowl selections, and the rare triple-crown receiving season. He has since moved to the Seattle Seahawks, returning him to his Pacific Northwest roots after his Rams career ran its course.
Kupp has been notably open about his Christian faith and has become one of the NFL's most visible faith-focused athletes. He married his high school sweetheart June in 2015, and the couple has children who have become a common presence at his games. He maintains endorsement partnerships with Nike and has supported youth football initiatives in the Yakima Valley and in both the Los Angeles and Seattle markets throughout his career.
