Biography
Ja'Marr Anthony Chase was born March 1, 2000, in Harvey, Louisiana, on the West Bank of New Orleans. He was raised primarily by his mother Tana in a close-knit community that produced multiple SEC and NFL football players, and his early football development was shaped by Louisiana's distinctively deep high school football culture. His quiet demeanor off the field has contrasted sharply with the fiery competitive style he brings to game day.
Chase attended Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana, where he emerged as a top national recruit. He signed with LSU over offers from virtually every elite SEC program, and his sophomore season in 2019 became one of the most dominant individual campaigns ever by a college wide receiver. Chase led the nation in receiving yards and touchdown catches, won the Biletnikoff Award as the country's top receiver, and was the connective offensive link between Joe Burrow and Justin Jefferson on LSU's undefeated national championship team.
The Cincinnati Bengals selected Chase fifth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, reuniting him with his college quarterback Joe Burrow. The reunion was electric: Chase set the NFL rookie record for receiving yards in a single game and earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after leading the Bengals to Super Bowl LVI. His 266-yard performance against the Chiefs during his rookie year announced his arrival.
Chase has been selected to multiple Pro Bowls and has authored multiple 1,000-yard seasons, establishing himself as one of the NFL's most explosive deep threats and reliable possession receivers. His chemistry with Burrow is among the most productive quarterback-receiver pairings in the league, and his combination of elite ball skills, route physicality, and after-the-catch running has made him one of the consensus top receivers in football.
His career résumé includes Offensive Rookie of the Year, multiple Pro Bowl selections, a Super Bowl appearance, and one of the largest non-quarterback contracts in NFL history. He and Jefferson have emerged as the defining young wide receiver duo of the modern NFL, and his production has consistently placed him in the conversation for Offensive Player of the Year.
Off the field, Chase has maintained a notably private profile, focusing on performance rather than celebrity. He has supported youth football initiatives in his native New Orleans area through the Chase Foundation, and he maintains endorsement partnerships with Nike's Jordan Brand and other major brands. His Louisiana roots remain central to his identity, and his continued on-field dominance has made him the face of the Bengals' passing game alongside Burrow.
