Biography
Rashee Rice was born October 7, 2000, in North Richland Hills, Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. His upbringing in the Dallas-area football culture placed him in one of the most competitive youth football scenes in the country, and his family's emphasis on athletics and academics shaped his development.
Rice attended Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas, where he was a three-star recruit and lightly regarded prospect. He signed with SMU, staying in state, and developed into one of the most productive receivers in Mustangs history. His senior year produced 96 catches for 1,355 yards and ten touchdowns, establishing him as a Day 2 NFL Draft prospect.
The Kansas City Chiefs selected Rice in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, pick 55 overall. He immediately produced at a high level in Andy Reid's offense, providing Patrick Mahomes with a quick-release possession target that complemented the Chiefs' established receiving options. His production during the 2023 season played a central role in Kansas City's Super Bowl LVIII championship run.
Rice's career has been interrupted by legal challenges related to a 2024 traffic incident in Dallas, which led to league disciplinary action. His on-field production when available has placed him among the more promising young receivers in the AFC, with the Chiefs' continued commitment to him reflecting his football value.
His career résumé includes a Super Bowl LVIII championship, strong rookie-year production, and status as one of the more productive slot-hybrid receivers in the NFL when on the field.
Off the field, Rice has faced significant legal and personal challenges, and his continued development as a professional has been closely watched both on and off the field. He maintains endorsement partnerships with brands willing to weather his off-field situation, and his combination of football potential and legal complications has made him one of the more complex stories among young NFL receivers.
