Biography
Xavier Deon Worthy was born April 16, 2003, in Fresno, California. His upbringing in California's Central Valley shaped his early athletic development — he became a high-level track sprinter while also developing as a football player. His family's support and his own work ethic placed him on a national recruiting track despite the relative obscurity of Fresno-area recruits.
Worthy attended Central East High School in Fresno, California, where he was a top California recruit. He signed with Texas after initially committing to Michigan, and his three seasons with the Longhorns established him as one of the fastest receivers in college football. His 4.21-second 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine set the all-time Combine record, drawing immediate national attention.
The Kansas City Chiefs selected Worthy 28th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, using him as a speed replacement for the aging Tyreek Hill archetype in Andy Reid's offense. His rookie season produced significant production including a Super Bowl LVIII appearance (following his debut in the 2024 season).
Worthy's elite speed has made him one of the most distinctive young receivers in the NFL. His ability to stretch defenses and create big plays downfield has complemented the Chiefs' possession-first receiving game and has added another dimension to Patrick Mahomes's arsenal.
His career résumé is still in its earliest chapter, but Worthy has already set the NFL Combine 40-yard dash record and produced at a high level as a rookie with the Chiefs. His long-term potential as a vertical threat and big-play specialist remains among the most promising at his position.
Off the field, Worthy has maintained a low-key public profile, focused on development rather than celebrity. He has supported youth football and track initiatives in his native Fresno community and has been active with the Chiefs' community outreach programs. He maintains endorsement partnerships with Nike and other brands, and his unique track-sprinter background has made him one of the more distinctive new faces at his position.
