Biography
Amon-Ra Julian Heru J. St. Brown was born October 24, 1999, in Anaheim, California, into one of the more unusual American football families. His father John Brown was a world champion bodybuilder and motivational speaker who gave his three sons ancient Egyptian names — Equanimeous, Osiris, and Amon-Ra — and raised them with an intense physical training regimen from childhood. His German-born mother Miriam helped shape their multicultural upbringing, and Amon-Ra and his brothers all became Division I football players, with Equanimeous also reaching the NFL.
St. Brown attended Servite High School in Anaheim, where he was a consensus five-star recruit and high school All-American. He signed with USC and spent three seasons with the Trojans, catching 178 passes across his college career and establishing himself as an elite route runner. His father's training programs produced what teammates described as unusually disciplined work ethic, a trait that would define his NFL career.
The Detroit Lions selected St. Brown in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, pick 112 overall — a selection that has become one of the great value picks of the modern draft era. He emerged as a rookie with a late-season run of eight consecutive games with at least eight catches, and by his second season he had become one of the NFL's most reliable slot receivers.
St. Brown has been selected to multiple Pro Bowls and earned first-team All-Pro honors, establishing himself as the consensus top slot receiver in the NFL. His combination of precision route running, elite hands, and after-the-catch production with quarterback Jared Goff has made him central to the Lions' offensive resurgence. His consecutive 1,100-plus yard seasons have placed him among the league's most consistent receiving threats.
His career résumé includes multiple Pro Bowl selections, first-team All-Pro honors, and consistent top-10 production in receptions and receiving yards. He signed a record-setting contract extension for a slot receiver in 2024, cementing his status as one of the most valuable non-outside receivers in the league.
Off the field, St. Brown has embraced his distinctive name and multicultural heritage, frequently discussing his German roots and family's unique backstory. He founded the St. Brown Family Foundation, which supports youth education and athletic programs in both the Los Angeles area and Detroit. He maintains endorsements with Jordan Brand and numerous other partners, and his disciplined, methodical public persona — including his well-known routine of catching 303 passes per day from a JUGS machine — has made him one of the more compelling stylistic figures at his position.
